"The Martin Cottage" on Lake Cecebe is approximately 2.5-3 hours north of Toronto (see link to maps). Detailed directions will be provided along with key information upon your reservation.
What time do we check in and check out?
Check in is Friday at 5pm, and check out is the following Friday at 2pm. For rentals in the spring/fall/winter, there is more flexibility - please let us know what works for you and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What do we have to bring to the cottage?
You are expected to bring your own bed linens, towels, facecloths, life jackets and food. Mattress covers and pillows are provided. We also try to supply some spices, toilet paper and other essentials which we ask you to replace out of courtesy to the next renters. Otherwise, the cottage comes fully equipped. You may want to bring extra paper towel, dish detergent etc.
What are the bed sizes?
The cottage has three bedrooms. Bedroom 1 - queen bed; Bedroom 2 - 2x single beds; Bedroom 3 - a set of single bunk beds. There is also a double pull-out couch.
Should we bring our food with us or buy it up there?
We have supermarkets in both Burks Falls and Sundridge. You also pass through Huntsville (large town with lots of shopping) on the way up. We recommend that you shop for food when you arrive!
How about the waterfront and the swimming?
This cottage has a nice sand bottom waterfront that is safe for kids and great for swimming and games. There is a rock breakwall from which the lake can be accessed, unless the dock and stairs are used. The water depth begins at about 1 foot and slopes slowly into the lake reaching 2.5 feet depth at the end of the dock. The lake is clean and safe to swim in. The swim raft is about 200 feet from the shoreline. We would suggest bringing water shoes for small children as there can be clams/mussels present in the hot summer days.
Is the water safe to drink?
The tap water at this cottage comes from a drilled well. It is clean and safe and can be used for showers, cleaning and cooking. We recommend you bring in some bottled water or boil the water prior to drinking.
What happens if the BBQ runs out of propane?
We ask renters to refill empty tanks prior to leaving the cottage. Propane can be bought in town.
Do you allow pets?
Yes. Dogs and cats are welcome but please clean up after them! We do ask that renters abide by municipality bylaws. Pets should not be allowed to roam unleashed off the property or be allowed to cause a disturbance to neighbouring properties. Owners must also remove all animal hair prior to leaving.
Can we smoke in the cottage?
No. We ask that smokers please smoke outside and properly dispose of all cigarette butts.
Does the cottage have a phone and will my cell phone get reception?
We do not have a telephone service in place at the cottage. Telephone service is available at neighboring cottages for emergency purposes only. Most cell phones receive service at "The Martin Cottage" however reception can be inconsistent in cottage country.
Do you provide Internet access?
At this time we do not provide Internet access.
Do I have to clean the cottage?
Yes. You are expected to clean the cottage prior to leaving, ensuring it is left in the same condition as when you arrived. Cleaning supplies and equipment can be found under the kitchen sink and/or in the shower room.
What to do with garbage & recycling?
You have to bring your garbage and recycles to the local dump. When you arrive at the cottage you will find a dump access card which is required to gain access to the dump. The dump is located in Magnetawan (see information package for directions). All garbage must be disposed of prior to your departure. While at the cottage, you can temporarily store garbage in the garbage box by the road.
A fee of $20/bag will be deducted from your security deposit for any garbage that is left at the cottage after your departure. If you lose the dump card, $25 will be deducted from your security deposit.
